Day Eleven

My coffee stop for the morning was FLUID Coffee Roasters, which turned out to be in an apartment building, so I went back to the Blackbird Cafe. The shot was good, but nowhere near as good as the night before. The next stop was to be at Seiberling Mansion, but the GPS stuck out again. I did stop in Peru, IN, to take a snapshot of the Megatron Statue to send to my friend John, who names the servers at the bank he works for after the Transformers.

I headed towards Dayton, and on the way to the Wright Brothers Airplane Factory, I had the car washed. The front of the car was covered in dead bugs, and I was afraid it would never get cleaned. No problems; two guys at the car wash scrubbed the front of the car for five minutes, and when the car came out the other side, it was completely bug-free.

I was running late, so I didn’t go into the Wright Brothers Museum; I just walked for a bit. From there I did visit the pyramid in Miamisburg Mound Park, which is theorized to be a three-thousand-year-old burial mound.

Cincinnati

I headed down to Cincinnati and parked my car in a public garage for the night. I had dinner at a Mediterranean restaurant on Vine Street called Abigail Street. The hummus with locally grown cherry tomatoes was very good. The falafel was good, but nowhere near as good as the falafel I had in Madison, WI. I had an espresso across the street at 1215 Wine Bar and Coffee Lab and then rode the streetcar to the Banks stop, where the Reds play in the Great American Ball Park. I walked to the Ohio riverside instead of joining the crowds waiting to enter the ballpark. As I walked through the Oktoberfest, I realized there were going to be a lot of drunks in Cincinnati that night.

I circled the entire stadium trying to find gate C. It was the bottom of the second when I found my seat, which was five rows behind the left fielder. There was a good mix of Reds and Cubs fans in my section. There were three drunken Reds fans a few rows in front of me. One of them constantly taunted the Cubs left fielder. I left after the fifth inning with the score tied three to three. I did get to see two home runs, one for each team.

Mounds State Park

It cost me $9.00 to enter Mounds State Park in Anderson, IN. Because of the return to Eastern Daylight Savings Time, I ate my lunch. I was expecting to see the pyramid (a large burial mound), so I followed the trail to the ring mound, which was used to mark the seasons. From there I followed the trail looking for the pyramid, but I found out I was an idiot; it is not there; it is actually outside Dayton, OH.
