Knock Box

The cheap knock box from Amazon I use when making Espresso was starting to look pretty shabby so I decided to rebuild it. The cheap painted MDF box was worn out and the rubber hose that wrapped the knock part was very beat up. The stainless steel pan was still fine. I had some left over quartersawn sapele I used and decided to try making box joints. The sides required notches to accommodate the nuts that stick out so I clamped the two side together made them with a3/4 inch drill. This worked fine until I decided to use a router to add a 1/4 round over to the top edges. When I hit the notches I butchered the edges. In my first attempt to fix it I cut square notches. I wasn't satisfied with how this looked so I used a dado set to extend a groove down the sides. I then machined some pieces of canary wood to create the art deco look of the finished product. It is finished with a single coat of amber shellac which is seal with sanding sealer and finally two coats of Armor Seal. I also had to by ten feet of rubber hose at the Depot to finish the job.
