Day Ten
I got up early, but unfortunately the morning rush on the interstate into Charlotte slowed me down. I successfully navigate to Smelly Cat Coffee in Charlotte. It is in an old industrial district that turned into a residential/commercial area. The entrance to the coffee shop is kept locked, and I had to ask at the “to go” window to be let in. I sat at the bar for 10 to 15 minutes while the staff stood around bullshitting and doing their best to ignore me. Maybe they sensed I was a dog person; who knows, so I left without coffee. My next stop was the big chair in Martinsville, NC. All I can say is that it is big. From there I drove to the Blue Ridge Parkway in Roanoke, VA. It is a scenic route that goes through the mountains. While I was driving up the highway at about 50 mph, I got a brake test when two deer walked in front of the car. All I can say is the car passed the test. I stopped at the Roanoke River Overlook. I walked down to the river and old power house. It was a 15-minute walk down and an 18-minute climb back up to the parking area.
I stopped at Montano’s restaurant in Roanoke, VA, and had a shrimp Po-boy and a double espresso. The po-boy was good, but not as good as the one I had in Savannah. From there I drove to Shenandoah Landing and River Park in Shenandoah, VA, for a 15-minute walk to stretch my legs. It looked like they might have gotten some flooding during hurricane Helena.
On arriving in Gettysburg, PA, I went straight to Bantam Coffee Roasters for an espresso. They pulled a shot into my cup, which I took to go and drank on the walk back to my car. It was decent but on the bitter side. I used up all my Hilton Rewards points at the Hampton Inn. They gave me a suite with a Jacuzzi and a gas fireplace
